Summer Holiday Fun in Norfolk – Family Adventures Just a Short Drive from West Beckham

The summer holidays are the perfect excuse to slow down, spend time together and make memories that will last long after the school bags come back out. Whether you’re travelling with toddlers, teenagers or three generations of the family, North Norfolk is packed with fantastic attractions, beautiful beaches and outdoor adventures guaranteed to produce some summer holiday fun.

Here are some of our favourite family-friendly days out, all within easy reach of Rookery Farm Barns in West Beckham.

Splash, paddle and build at Sheringham Beach (3.5 miles)

Sometimes the simplest days are the best. Sheringham’s Blue Flag beach has something for everyone, from sandcastle building and rock pooling to crabbing and paddling in the sea. The promenade is perfect for an ice cream stroll, while the town offers plenty of cafés, shops and traditional seaside fun. If you’re lucky, you might even spot one of the local fishing boats bringing in the day’s catch.

Step aboard the Poppy Line at North Norfolk Railway (4 miles)

Children love the excitement of travelling on a real steam train, and adults can’t help but be transported back in time too. The North Norfolk Railway runs between Sheringham and Holt through beautiful countryside, with vintage stations, special themed events and plenty of opportunities to meet the engines. It’s a wonderfully relaxing way to experience the Norfolk landscape.

Discover wildlife at Pensthorpe Natural Park (16 miles)

If your family enjoys getting outdoors, Pensthorpe is hard to beat. There are nature trails, flamingos, adventure play areas, giant outdoor climbing equipment and indoor play for rainy days. It’s somewhere children can burn off energy while parents enjoy the beautiful gardens and wildlife.

Meet the seals at Blakeney Point (11 miles to Morston Quay)

One of Norfolk’s most unforgettable experiences is taking a boat trip from Morston Quay to see the famous grey seal colony at Blakeney Point. Children are always amazed to see dozens of seals swimming alongside the boats or relaxing on the sandbanks. Don’t forget your camera – it’s an experience the whole family will remember.

Explore history at Blickling Estate (12 miles)

There’s far more to Blickling than a grand house. Families can enjoy woodland walks, cycle trails, picnic spots and acres of parkland. Summer holiday fun is there for the taking on the children’s activity trails and family events. It is a chance to make history feel much more like an adventure than a lesson.

Enjoy a day at Cromer (8 miles)

No visit to North Norfolk would be complete without spending a day in Cromer. Walk along the famous pier, enjoy traditional amusements, tuck into fish and chips or simply relax on the beach. Families with younger children will also love Amazona Zoo on the edge of town, home to jaguars, monkeys and tropical birds.

Adventure awaits at Bewilderwood (26 miles)

If you’re looking for a full day of excitement, Bewilderwood is always a winner. With treehouses, giant slides, zip wires, storytelling and imaginative play, it’s designed to encourage children to explore, climb and let their imaginations run wild. It’s refreshingly screen-free and every visit feels different.

After a busy day exploring, returning to the peaceful surroundings of Rookery Farm Barns is the perfect way to unwind. Whether it’s a barbecue in the evening sunshine, watching the stars appear over the Norfolk countryside or simply planning tomorrow’s adventure, you’ll soon discover why families return to North Norfolk for summer holiday fun year after year.
